The EDGE team, who support transition services for students who are blind and/or visually impaired across New Jersey, hosted it's first Summer Transition Program gaining life skills and independence, with a lot of summer fun!
Students and staff were housed at Farleigh Dickinson University for the two week program and had a jam-packed schedule attending workshops, visiting local businesses, and gaining real life experiences that will help with their futures while building confidence.
The students visited the Florham Park Trader Joe’s for a fabulous tour with Leslie, where they were given a goodie bag and learned about job opportunities. A financial literacy and independence workshop was hosted by our friend, Vlad Stricker from Merrill Lynch. An evening networking event was well attended, giving students the opportunity to practice their elevator pitch and make connections with businesses. Quite possibly the most exciting, was a trip to Six Flags to navigate the theme park and enjoy some rides!
The Summer Transition Program wrapped up with a special graduation ceremony at The Mansion on the FDU campus. Families were invited to come celebrate the students, meet the staff & counselors and hear from CBVI (Commission for the Blind & Visually Impaired).
