Heather Hans, Director of Vocational Services of Adult Training Centers, was recently featured on The Arc of New Jersey Family Institute's "Let’s Talk Day Programs" podcast, where she offered an inside look at what makes our Arc Ocean Adult Training Centers truly unique.
Heather explained that there is no such thing as a “typical” day, sharing that programs are “structured but supportive” and designed to allow for “a lot of personal choice and hopefully a lot of fun,” with activities built around each individual’s interests, abilities, and goals.
Throughout the conversation, Heather emphasized Arc Ocean’s commitment to innovation and community involvement, noting, “We really, really pride ourselves in being innovative,” and highlighting how staff are encouraged to bring their own talents—like gardening or floral design—into programming to boost engagement and excitement.
She also spoke about the importance of purpose and connection, sharing that day programs provide “structure and learning, the opportunity to make friends, and really… give purpose and meaning to people’s lives,” while offering opportunities for wellness, creative expression, volunteering, and community integration throughout Ocean County.
