Silverton Group Home Interviews with the Governor’s Office

Group home resident and staff being interviewed

The Arc, Ocean County Chapter, was honored to welcome the New Jersey Governor’s Office to our Silverton Group Home for a special video interview highlighting the incredible work of our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and the individuals they support.

The visit began at the Silverton home, where Marty, a resident, and his DSP, Jacob, shared what life in a group home is like, emphasizing the importance of independence, inclusion, and compassionate care. They discussed the vital role DSPs play in daily life, helping residents with everything from personal care and skill-building to community engagement and social activities.

The interview continued beyond the home as the Governor’s team joined Marty and Jacob on their daily routine, stopping at Wawa for coffee, grocery shopping at ShopRite, and running some laps around a track (Marty is an athlete for The Arc’s Special Olympics Track & Field team). Each stop showcased how involved Marty is in his community and how DSPs provide encouragement and support to help individuals live meaningful, active lives.

Thanks to the Governor’s ongoing advocacy for higher DSP wages, these dedicated professionals are now better supported in their essential work. The increased pay rate has helped strengthen the workforce and recognize the invaluable impact DSPs make every day.

The Arc, Ocean County Chapter, is deeply grateful to the Governor’s Office for shining a light on the importance of group homes, the people who live and work in them, and the progress being made to ensure fair wages for DSPs across New Jersey, and a special thank you to Marty and Jacob for sharing their day with us.
