On September, 14 Jennifer and Shawn from The Arc Employment Center had the opportunity to attend the Greater Toms River Chamber of Commerce Day of Impact at the SUP the River event. Hosted by the Ocean County College Foundation and the Kiwanis Club of Greater Toms River, this exciting event took place at the Toms River Yacht Club and brought together a vibrant mix of local nonprofits and community members for a day of community inclusion and collaboration.
Jennifer and Shawn, both members of the AEC’s Power in Numbers self-advocacy group, took the initiative to engage with event attendees by inviting them to spin the wheel at The Arc’s booth. This fun, interactive activity was a great way to spark conversations about the important work being done at the AEC, helping to raise awareness about their mission of empowering individuals with disabilities through employment opportunities.
Beyond their efforts at the booth, Jennifer and Shawn took the time to walk around the event, connecting with representatives from other nonprofits. Their proactive approach to fostering relationships and increasing community inclusion truly showcased the spirit of self-advocacy. By making these connections, they not only promoted The Arc’s programs but also contributed to creating a more inclusive community for all.
