Pre-ETS Paid Internship Program

The Arc, Ocean County Chapter's new Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) Paid Internship Program is taking significant strides to empower young adults with mental health disabilities between the ages of 14-21 by offering mentorships, workshops, applied learning experiences, and paid internships.

Offering participants a chance to build a brighter future who are navigating the complexities of secondary, post-secondary, or other recognized education programs, provides many great opportunities. The array of workshops offered through the program covers crucial life skills and career-related topics. From financial literacy to nurturing interpersonal relationships and self-advocacy, students will be equipped with the tools necessary for both personal and professional growth.

Career-focused workshops will dive into areas like employer interviews, technology proficiency, and strategies for career advancement. The workshops provided aim at a holistic educational experience, preparing young adults for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

One remarkable aspect of this program is the concept of Life and Work Mentors. Students enrolled will have the privilege of engaging in regular group calls with successful professionals who also have experience with mental health disabilities. Mentors will serve as inspiring role models, providing invaluable guidance, and fostering a sense of belonging. These interactions aim to boost the confidence and self-esteem of program participants, showing them that a thriving career is indeed within reach.

The Pre-ETS Paid Internship Program will consist of 21 lessons spread throughout six weeks (three prior to internship and three following its completion). The paid internship itself will last for 15 weeks. Participants will engage in applied learning experiences, designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application. The practical exercises will enable students to develop essential skills and enhance their problem-solving abilities.

Participants will collaborate with Skills Trainers to create a personalized plan tailored to their career interests. This component of the program not only empowers participants with valuable on-the-job experience, but also lays the foundation for future career success.

The program will equip young individuals with mental health disabilities with skills, confidence, and opportunities needed to flourish in their personal and professional lives. In doing so, it is breaking down barriers, fostering inclusivity, and ensuring that everyone, regardless of their disabilities, can achieve their dreams and contribute meaningfully to society.
