The Arc of Ocean County Chapter offers monthly staff training in Positive Behavior Supports (PBS).
The New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) formally requires the use of PBS as a statewide framework for supporting adults with disabilities.
This month, we played a game of Four Corners where we processed the possible functions of behavior for various scenarios.
In PBS, we learn that behavior is a form of communication, typically to get or avoid something. We remember the various functions of behavior using the acronym SEAT: Sensory, Escape, Attention, Tangible.
In our monthly training, we are reminded that people of all ages and abilities can learn and do better, especially when using the science of behavior change in PBS.
